Intercept Contraband in prisons : 5 Tips
Intercept Contraband in 5 Tips
It is always better to intercept contraband coming into your facility. Before they can cause harm. Inmates have so many ways to hide contraband cell phones.
5 Tips to Intercept Contraband:
1. Always be scanning staff, visitors, contractors, inspectors, vendors, lawyers before they enter your facility.
Staff, guards, and vendors need to be vigilant observers. Anything that breaks routine should alert you to observe what is happening. The key to intercepting contraband is human intervention.
“The boxes were removed to reveal five cellular phones and five charger cords with the electrical plugs removed in each box. The employees operating the truck were notified that they would not be allowed into any state correctional facility pending the conclusion of a complete investigation by the department’s Internal Investigative Division (IID).”

2. Check the Mail Room Daily.

3. Police Outdoor and Common Areas
Over the fences, food vendors, janitorial products and animals are all used to sneak in contraband. A Radio Frequency Detector is best for this kind of situation. WatchHound is perfect for the job.
“When two murderers serving life sentences escaped from Florida Panhandle prison last fall, a search of their cells turned up a cellphone used to help plan the getaway, drawing attention to the burgeoning problem. It was just one of 4,200 cellphones confiscated by prison officials last year, or 11 per day.”
“The scary part is, if we found 4,200, we know that’s not all of them,” Crews said.

4. Covert Detection on Foot Patrols
Always maintain the element of surprise. Doing foot patrols means you should randomize your daily walk throughs. Do not give inmates time to turn off or hide their mobile phones.
Being able to intercept contraband in a cell is step one. Being able to report the use of it in a covert manner is just as critical.
Guards using the PocketHound have 100% success with covert detection and reporting.
5. Download “Controlling Contraband Cell Phones”
This new Epaper made available to the general public this year is revolutionary in the cell detection industry. There is no other company or line of products that are as affordable, cost-effective, and provide multiple layers of security.
